Veterinary website geared at kids launches
Future veterinarians can get a head start with this new interactive site.
The Morris Animal Foundation has launched a new website, mafkids.org, to help nurture kids’ interest in animals and perhaps also help them strive for a career in veterinary medicine. It features animals (dogs, cats, horses, llamas and lots of wildlife species) and the people who work to keep them healthy. Kids can take a quiz, see photos of animal health researchers in action, and download wallpaper for their computers. The site is geared for second- to sixth-graders, which is fitting since the average age a person decides to become a veterinarian is 9.
Morris Animal Foundation, a foundation where veterinarians study ways to prevent, treat, and cure animal illnesses, was started in 1948 by Dr. Mark Morris Sr. Dr. Mark Morris Jr. was also a veterinarian, and he helped grow Morris Animal Foundation. Today, Mark Sr.’s great-granddaughter Liza Morris is continuing her family’s tradition into the fourth generation. Liza’s dream is to be a wildlife veterinarian. Hear her story at mafkids.org.
