Covetrus and the American Veterinary Medical Association joined forces to award scholarships to veterinary technicians
Veterinary technician content is sponsored by Elanco for the month of October.
Covetrus announced this week the launch of its Veterinary Technician Heroes’ campaign to honor the crucial work technicians do in treating and caring for patients. Covetrus will collaborate with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Pets Best to give 35 veterinary technicians mentoring scholarships through MentorVet Tech.
"These dedicated professionals are the backbone of our veterinary health care teams, providing compassionate care and technical skill that are second to none," said Rena Carlson, DVM, president of the AVMA, in an organizational release.1 "The AVMA is committed to supporting veterinary technicians through educational initiatives, advocacy and resources that empower them to excel in their roles. Their work not only enhances the well-being of animals but also enriches our communities and advances the veterinary profession."
According to the organizational release,1 MentorVet Tech is a 5-month virtual professional development and mentorship program to promote wellbeing through training in professional skills, financial and mental health coaching, and mentorship. The program, led by director Alyssa Mages, BS, CVT, gives participants in the program access to 5 modules to build and grow professional wellbeing, attend monthly peer group meetings online, and more.2
"Veterinary technicians matter, and we are so grateful to see organizations coming together to support this important initiative," said Addie R. Reinhard, DVM, MS, founder and CEO of MentorVet. "Veterinary technicians experience a myriad of challenges and stressors, and our innovative program can give this essential group of individuals the professional skills and support that they need to have sustainable careers in veterinary medicine."1
Along with the 35 scholarships, Covetrus is also honoring veterinary technicians through the Covetrus Veterinary Technician Heroes Giveaway. The giveaway will select at random 10 technicians who enter to be awarded Fear Free certifications. To enter, veterinary technicians are asked to share why they love being a veterinary technician or why, as a veterinary professional, you appreciate all that veterinary technicians do. The chosen recipients will be announced in late October 2023.
"Veterinary technicians are the heart of veterinary practices, and we recognize and honor them this year for all they do each and every day," expressed Matt Yordy, president of Covetrus North America. "Covetrus is pleased to partner with AVMA, MentorVet, and Pets Best to provide additional learning opportunities to vet techs."1
Applications are now being accepted for the MentorVet Tech scholarships and will close on October 21, 2023, at 5 PM ET.
