The Global Decline of Pollinator Species Is a One Health Issue

Video

Veterinarians need to be cognizant of the global decline of pollinator species because it's a One Health issue.

Veterinarians need to be cognizant of the global decline of pollinator species because it's a One Health issue, says Terry Ryan Kane, DVM, MS, founder of A2 Bee Vet—this decline greatly impacts our food supply.

She says veterinarians first got involved in honeybee health because of the new FDA guidelines regarding antibiotic use, but there is a far greater issue. The biodiversity of food gives us the biodiversity of insects which gives us the biodiversity of birds and all other animals, and veterinarians now play an even greater role in the success of this food chain.
