’s triennial State of the Profession Survey was sent to 73,695 veterinarians on June 27, 2012, by e-mail to recipients selected from the subscriber lists of

DVM Newsmagazine

and its sister publication

Veterinary Medicine

. Responses were collected until July 8. The survey generated 3,355 responses, creating a response rate of 5 percent and a 98 percent confidence level (although sample sizes—and statistical reliability—on individual questions may be considerably lower). One respondent was randomly selected as the winner of an Apple iPad.
