We had a (human) baby boom at our practice and began thinking about ways to reuse our old waterproof crib mattress pads. Once the elastic on the side wears out, we cut it off, leaving a great waterproof blanket to put on top of blankets or towels in cages. It cuts down on laundry because if the crib pad gets wet, we only have to replace the top layer, not the heavy bedding underneath.
