Pedigree recalls three weight management canned dog foods

July 2, 2012

Pedigree has voluntarily recalled three varieties of Pedigree weight management canned dog food products due to a potential choking risk.

Pedigree has voluntarily recalled three varieties of Pedigree weight management canned dog food products due to a potential choking risk. A release issued June 30 by Pedigree said the products “may contain small pieces of blue plastic.”

The affected products are Pedigree+ Healthy Weight Premium Ground Entrée in Meaty Juices, Pedigree Weight Management Meaty Ground Dinner Beef and Liver Dinner in Meaty Juices, and Pedigree Weight Management Meaty Ground Dinner Chicken and Rice Dinner in Meaty Juices. The recalled cans will have a lot code printed on the end of the can that begins with 209, 210, 211 or 212 and a “best before” date that falls between Feb. 24, 2014, and March 23, 2014. Consumers should discard the recalled cans or return them to their retailer for a full refund or exchange. Mars Petcare US, owner of the Pedigree manufacturing facilities in the United States, said there have been no reports of injury or illness associated with the affected product as of July 2.

Mars Petcare claims the plastic broke off a conveyor belt during the production process. The conveyor belt has been replaced with a redesigned tracking mechanism. More information can be found at www.pedigree.com/update. Mars Petcare can be reached for questions and notifications about the recall from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., CST, at (877) 720-3335.
