Not to harp on the whole planning angle, but if you want to counter that local challenge, the first step is to identify the distinguishing traits that you want to communicate to pet owners about your practice.
Can you highlight specific services that other practices don't offer? For example, do you particularly cater to cats, or exotics, or breeders? Can your team make a client feel happier and more welcome than anyone else possibly can? If so, how are you letting potential clients know that you offer this "something special"?
