How to perform an ovariohysterectomy in a cat

Article

to come

To perform the pedicle tie in a cat spay, exteriorize the uterine horn, and deliver the ovary through the abdominal incision.

Cut the suspensory ligament, and tear a hole in the broad ligament behind the ovarian vessels.

Place a curved hemostat in the hole in the broad ligament and under the ovarian vessel.

Pass the tip of the hemostat under the ovarian vessels, and rotate the tip around the vessels. Open the jaws of the hemostat as the distal (ovarian) end of the pedicle is advanced around and into the hemostat jaws and clamped.

Transect the pedicle distal to the hemostat (between the hemostat and the ovary).

Push the knot over the end of the hemostat, and pull the knot tight.
