A new book chronicles what is being called the largest equine rescue ever.

BATON ROUGE, LA. — A new book chronicles what is being called the largest equine rescue ever.

Ky Mortensen, director of advancement for the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine's Equine Health Studies program, compiled firsthand accounts of how the school's equine rescue team saved hundreds of horses in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Horses of the Storm: The Incredible Rescue of Katrina's Horses, also includes tips for handling horses during disasters. It is available online in paperback through Barnes & Noble and Amazon. A portion of the proceeds will go to the LSU equine health studies program.
