LEXINGTON, KY. — A California veterinarian long active in dealing with racehorse medication and drug-testing issues was one of four new members elected to the Jockey Club.

Dr. Rick Arthur is the equine medical director for both the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) and the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California-Davis and is secretary of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium.

He was instrumental in the CHRB's recent banning of anabolic steroids in racing and its adoption of tougher penalties for violations.

The Jockey Club is the breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds and is a leader in many racing-industry initiatives.
