Port-au-Prince, Haiti

-- The Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) has pledged $1.1 million to improve animal welfare conditions in the island nation following a devastating Jan. 12 earthquake.

ARCH is comprised of more than 20 of the world’s leading animal welfare groups, and will establish an epidemiology network to help prevent disease outbreaks, train a minimum of 200 Haitian veterinarians and veterinary health workers, restore vaccination campaigns, and obtain updated data about the country’s changing animal population. The group also announced the arrival of a fully equipped veterinary mobile clinic to Port-au-Prince, which will further support its animal rescue efforts.
