AAEP 'On Call' veterinarians supporting spring racing events

Lexington, Ky.

-- The American Association of Equine Practitioners' "On Call" program is providing expert commentary to assist journalists covering the spring season of Thoroughbred racing on major television networks again this year.

Since the program began in 1991, more than 30 AAEP members annually volunteer their time and expertise to provide accurate veterinary information to broadcast and print media about the medical status of Thoroughbreds during racing events. New to the program this year are Dr. Scott Hay of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Dr. Martin Ivey of Weatherford, Texas. Dr. Larry Bramlage, of Lexington's Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, will provide commentary again this year for the upcoming Triple Crown races. Other veterinarians have been on hand for televised races that began March 21.

The "On Call" program, supported by an annual donation from the Oak Tree Racing Association, earlier this year received a special Eclipse Award for outstanding contributions to the sport of Thoroughbred racing at the 38th annual Eclipse Awards ceremony in Miami.
