Who gets creditcats or dogs?

This survey answers the question (maybe) of who has better credit: cat owners or dog owners?

We can't say why, but, yes, there's a slight difference in credit scores between cat owners and dog owners. Go figure. (Photo Getty Images)Working in a veterinary practice, we're sure you've thought about ways to help clients pay for their pets' care (and if you haven't, here you go). But have you ever wondered who has better credit: cat people or dog people?

Credit-score-monitoring website WalletHub.com tried to answer the question. A nationally representative survey of 1,000 people (think your clients) were asked to check their credit score and then answered a series of questions related to preferences in cultural topics. They covered a lot of fun facts (check out the whole list here), but what is  probably most relevant to you is, “Are you a cat or a dog person?”

Drum roll, please …

• Dog lovers are more likely to have excellent credit than cat owners (46% vs. 40%).

• Dog and cat lovers are equally likely to have bad credit (28%).

• Dog lovers have a higher average credit score (670) than cat lovers (655).

So do dogs somehow give their owners a better credit score, or do owners with better credit scores simply prefer dogs? Or is it a complete coincidence? We know, we know-correlation does not equal causation-but the findings are quite intriguing. Just be sure not to prejudge your clients. You never know when that millionaire cat client will walk through your door!
