Burkitt, DVM, DACVECC, assistant professor of clinical surgical and radiological sciences at the University of California, Davis, explains that steroid use in the emergency room can be controversial, however there are instances where it is not. For example, a known immune-mediated disease process is a classic use of steroids, she says. These animals require steroids most of the time—at least in the beginning.
