How many hours should I schedule for my receptionists in relation to the number of veterinarians on staff?
"Well-Managed Practices normally have 1.2 receptionists per doctor," says Jennette Lawson, a consultant with Wutchiett Tumblin and Associates in Columbus, Ohio. "A full-time equivalent veterinarian works 40 to 45 hours a week. So, if your practice has one doctor working 50 hours a week and another working 15, that would be about 1.5 doctors. To have 1.2 receptionists per doctor, you'd need 1.8 receptionists, or 72 scheduled reception hours."
