Two tools to help you figure appropriate doctor compensation

Mark Opperman, CVPM, owner of VMC Inc. in Evergreen, Colo., created these two forms to help you figure appropriate compensation for your practice's doctors.

The Total Compensation Statement is an Excel spreadsheet that lists possible costs associated with employing an associate doctor. The resulting number is the associate's total compensation rate, which shouldn't exceed 25 percent. If it does, Opperman says, you're paying the associate out of your pocket and reducing your return on investment.
