These days, the biggest challenge is educating clients about preventive medicine in exotics. “Most people aren’t educated properly when they buy these animals,” Dr. Hess says. “Usually people don’t come in for checkups.” Dr. Hess uses her team’s expertise—along with more than 180 handouts on the care of various species—to spread the word.
