Portland, Ore.
- The Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board has put into effect a temporary rule to allow shelter staffers to receive euthanasia training and testing through October from board-approved vendors or veterinarians.
According to the board, the volunteer Euthanasia Task Force helped shelters with euthanasia duties for more than 20 years. However, over the last few years, only two agencies - the Oregon Humane Society and Multnomah County Animal Control - still were participating.
The board will review the temporary rule in October to determine whether to make the change permanent.
