COLUMBUS, OHIO — Two studies at The Ohio State University show that a lost dog is more likely to be reunited with its owner than a lost cat.
More than a third of all recovered dogs, more likely than cats to be tagged and licensed, were found by owners in animal shelters. More than half the cats studied returned on their own compared to fewer than one in 10 dogs. The studies appear in the Jan. 15 issue of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
