Laparoscopic Ovariectomy

Event

Date: November 12 - November 12, 2015

Description:

*This lab takes place in the afternoon AFTER the morning lecture for the Advanced Minimally Invasive course. (A participant may register for both courses without any schedule conflict).

Advanced Minimally Invasive Laparoscopy concludes on Day 1 at 12:30pm and resumes the following day at 8:45am for the lab portion.

Laparoscopic ovariectomy is rapidly becoming the state of the art method for sterilization of female dogs and cats. This course will begin with a short review the surgical technique and also consider the efficacy and the ethics of incorporating laparoscopic ovariectomy into practice versus the traditional open surgical spay. Each participant will then perform an ovariectomy on a dog that will be returned to the local animal shelter for adoption. Participants will perform the surgery using the Valley Lab Ligasure™ coagulation system.

This course is only for veterinarians having laparoscopic experience.

The course can be taken immediately after the basic laparoscopic course or as a separate course with documentation of experience. When this course is offered with the basic laparoscopy course, the lecture on ovariectomy is incorporated in the basic course.

This course provides 4 hours of continuing education credits and technicians are invited to attend the lecture and observe the laboratory.
