Washington-Model legislation for states to improve regulation and oversight of the urban wildlife control industry has been introduced by the Humane Society of the United States.

The legislation recommends requirements for training and licensing practitioners, treating wildlife in a humane manner and protecting consumers.

"Without specific legislation to regulate or oversee this growing industry, states have no way to prevent those who promote themselves as wildlife control experts from mistreating animals or engaging in unscrupulous business practices," says John Hadidan, Ph.D., director of the HSUS urban wildlife program.
