Equine veterinarians and technicians can win $5,000 for charity

Nominate your colleagues for awards that include $5,000 to a charity of their choice and a trip to dine and film with the host of PBS travel show "Equitrekking."

Equine veterinarians and veterinary technicians can now nominate their peers for the second Bayer Animal Health Legend of the Year Award, which goes to practitioners and technicians who show a commitment to equine health and care. Bayer will give $5,000 to the winner's favorite equine charity or cause after the winner is announced at the American Association of Equine Practitioners annual convention in November.

Veterinarians and technicians who nominate a colleague for this year's Legend of the Year Award are entered into a sweepstakes to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Mackinac Island, Mich., to ride along with Darley Newman, the host of PBS' equine travel show "Equitrekking." Also included is dinner with Newman, a DVD copy of the show, and a Charles Owen riding helmet.

Dr. Liz Bracken of Atascadero, Calif., won the inaugural award last December. Bayer gave a $5,000 donation in Dr. Bracken's name to Miller's Equestrian Center and Sanctuary in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
