On the season 3 premiere of dvm360 Live!™, host and dvm360’s chief veterinary officer Adam Christman, DVM, MBA, welcomes Steve Mehler, DVM, DACVS. The pair turn their attention to the wounds that keep clinicians up at night, from deep wounds to degloving injuries.

But first, Abi Bautista-Alejandre, dvm360’s assistant editor, rounds up recent veterinary headlines, beginning with a civil complaint filed by the US Department of Justice against Arrow Reliance Inc, doing business as Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, and Gary Tashjian, its owner and CEO. Federal officials allege that FDA testing from 2017 to 2025 found Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, and Shiga toxin–producing Escherichia coli in the company’s finished pet food, and the government is asking a federal court to halt manufacturing and distribution until the company makes sanitation improvements. The allegations have not been proven in court, and Tashjian told dvm360 the company “strongly disagrees” with the FDA’s claims.

Bautista-Alejandre also covers an FDA pilot program designed to ease veterinary drug shortages by prioritizing certain animal drug applications when both the finished product and its active ingredient are manufactured in the US. Finally, she highlights a new dashboard from the University of California, San Diego that estimates county-level New World screwworm risk by combining case reports, environmental conditions, and media reports of suspected cases, which may help public health officials spot threats before lab confirmation.
