-- DVM Newsmagazine columnist Dr. Michael A. Obenski, Managing Editor James M. Lewis and Art Director Bill Joyce won national and regional gold awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors' (ASBPE) 31st annual Azbee Awards of Excellence.
Gold, silver and bronze awards for 2008 editorial and design work were handed out to writers, editors and designers for business and professional journals during ASBPE's National Editorial Conference July 15-16 at Washington's Marriott Hotel.
Obenski's column "Where did I go wrong?" received a national gold award in the humorous-fun-human-interest category. Obenski, Joyce and illustrator Ryan Ostrander were honored for the winning entry.
In the Central/Southeast region, Lewis and Joyce received a gold award for the news analysis/investigative category for the article "Racing's reformation?" (July 2008). The article focused on efforts of the horse-racing industry to initiate reforms and improve its image following a congressional hearing into injuries, breakdowns and medication issues.
