BATTLE GROUND, IN - 10/6/06 - Veterinary technicians will be in the spotlight next week as the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, Inc. (NAVTA) readies for National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) Oct. 15-21.

"We CARE!" is the theme for this year's NVTW activities. Events scheduled nationally will focus on increasing awareness of the veterinary technician's role. Technicians' primary responsibilities on the animal health care team include nursing care, administering medication, assisting in surgery, taking x-rays, inducing and monitoring of anesthesia, hospital management and laboratory testing.

During the week, veterinary technicians can focus attention on their profession through activities that:

  • Educate the public.

  • Reinforce the value and professionalism of veterinary technicians to veterinarians and the public.

  • Provide an opportunity for veterinary technicians to salute one another.

  • Acknowledge veterinarians for employing veterinary technicians.

Sample press releases, proclamations and other information to celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week can be found at www.navta.net.
