A possible option. An abdominal ultrasonographic examination can evaluate bowel wall layers and thickness as well as reveal extraintestinal problems such as masses, radiolucent foreign bodies, intussusceptions, and enlarged abdominal lymph nodes. And fine-needle aspiration biopsies may be obtained if indicated and preclude the need for more invasive diagnostics.
