Health Canada says it intends to ban carbadox inthe country, which resulted in a strong opposition statement by U.S.-basedPhibro Animal Health.
Phibro, a newly formed subsidiary of Philipp Brothers Chemicals, acquiredthe global medicated feed additive product line from Pfizer Animal Health.
Dr. Robert Querido, president of Phibro Animal Health, says, "Weare disappointed and dismayed with the disclosure by Health Canada concerningtheir intent to ban the use of carbadox. Carbadox is one of the most effectivetools available to the producer for the prevention of enteric diseases inyoung pigs."
Querido adds that the proposed ban is a result of pressure being appliedon Canada by European Union authorities, which have also moved to ban certainmedicated feeds from those markets.
