Calif. considers tax break for adoptions from shelters
Sacramento -- A tax deduction for the cost of adopting a pet from a rescue organization is being considered by California lawmakers, but already has been trimmed from its original version.

-- A tax deduction for the cost of adopting a pet from a rescue organization is being considered by California lawmakers, but already has been trimmed from its original version.
When introduced Feb. 5, Assembly Bill 233 proposed rewarding pet owners who adopt animals from non-profit shelters, humane groups and rescue societies with a personal tax deduction of up to $300 based on the cost of the adoption. On April 13, an amendment cut the deduction to $100.
If passed, the bill would take effect immediately.
