Association for Pet Obesity Prevention seeks data on Oct. 10
Organization hopes to shed light on pet obesity in the U.S. and improve care for overweight pets.
The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) will conduct its sixth annual Pet Obesity Awareness Day survey on Oct. 10.
APOP founder Ernie Ward, DVM, is asking veterinary clinics across the nation to contribute data that will aid in the fight against pet obesity. He asks veterinarians and team members to record the weight and body condition score for each patient receiving a routine exam on Oct. 10, National Pet Obesity Awareness Day.
“Our goal is to determine more accurately the exact number of pets in the United States that are overweight or obese,” Ward says. “Past experience demonstrates that this should add no more than one to two minutes to your normal physical examination routine.”
The more pets and detailed information veterinarians provide, the better, Ward says. Click here to join the fight against obesity and the APOP will send handouts, instructions and measuring tapes to complete the study.
