Juneteenth

Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday known as the country’s second independence day and a celebration of Black resilience and achievement. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, which occurred on June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation reached enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas.1
