Want to have a good day at the veterinary practice? Clock in with a smile, researchers say.

Maybe you didn’t sleep well or you got into a fight with your spouse before you left for work. Or maybe you just didn’t have time to chug your daily allotment of coffee. Whatever the reason, all of these morning mishaps affect your mood and set the tone for your whole day, researchers say.

In a study for the Academy of Management Journal, researchers found that when employees started the day in a good mood, they tended to rate customers more positively through the day. They also tended to feel more positively themselves as the day progressed. And most importantly to managers, employee mood had a clear impact on performance—including how much work employees did and how well they did it.

On the other hand, employees who started their day in a bad mood said their mood got worse over the course of the day. This is why it's so important to start the day off right. Click here for 10 feel-good tips to share with your team.
