Cheyenne, Wyo.

— Wyoming lawmakers have created a new account aimed at giving local law enforcement agencies more resources to fight animal cruelty.

The act, SF 100 was adopted March 3 and will create a “cruelty to household pet animals protection account.” The Wyoming Senate will appropriate $100,000 for the account, according to legislation. The fund can be used by the attorney general to reimburse local law enforcement agencies’ work on animal cruelty cases.

Household pet cruelty charges can be levied against anyone who keeps a household pet in a manner that results in chronic or repeated physical harm or keeps the pet confined in a situation that constitutes a public health hazard.
