Rover might not be able to cook dinner or fold the laundry, but how many husbands do those chores anyway? Seventy-eight percent of respondents to an online poll say they'd rather have a pet than a husband. The poll was conducted by DogCatRadio.com, which has a listenership that's 87 percent female. One respondent says, "I'd rather have a pet and simply date; it's less stress on everyone involved."

And what about women who have both a furry and a hairy companion? Thirty-one percent of female pet owners say they spend more time with their pet than with their spouse, according to a Hartz Human-Animal Bond Survey. So when's Hubby moving into the doghouse?
