Which Toxins Only Affect Cats or Dogs?

Some toxins only affect cats, while others only affect dogs, says Laura Stern, DVM, DAVBT, senior toxicologist for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.

Some toxins that affect cats, but not dogs, are things such as nephrotoxic lilies and concentrated permethrin products. On the flip side, Dr. Stern says dogs can develop weakness and tremors to macadamia nuts whereas cats don't do that. Dogs are also sensitive to grapes and raisins, but we don't expect this sensitivity with cats.
