Wedgewood recalls nearly 4000 compounded veterinary products over drug potency concerns

Fact checked by: Yasmeen Qahwash

Medications shipped nationwide from February through early October may contain too little or too much of the active drug. The company has reported 98 complaints to date—7 of them serious.

Wedgewood Pharmacy is voluntarily recalling nearly 4000 compounded veterinary products that may contain too much or too little of their active ingredients.1,2 The count refers to individual product listings, not the total number of affected lots.

According to a Wedgewood news release, the issue was discovered through the company's own quality processes. The company said inconsistencies in the reliability of laboratory testing data could have resulted in products with incorrect potency.

The Swedesboro, New Jersey–based compounding pharmacy announced the recall on October 21, 2026. The affected medications, all still within their expiration dates, were shipped to veterinary practices, pharmacies, and other customers across the US between February 18 and October 6, 2026. Wedgewood said the recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the FDA.

The recall covers multiple dosage forms, concentrations, and sizes.2 The products include powders, pastes, oral suspensions, injectables, ophthalmic ointments and solutions, ear solutions and suspensions, and topical sprays and gels. The medications are compounded for use in companion, equine, exotic, zoo, wildlife, and aquatic animals and are not intended for food-producing animals.

Searchable recall list

Wedgewood has posted a dedicated recall lookup page with a search bar that allows users to search for recalled products by name or stock keeping unit (SKU) and view associated lot numbers and expiration dates.2 Users can search by partial product names or SKUs, and the results list lot numbers in numerical order with expiration dates.

Potential health risks

According to Wedgewood, a subpotent product can result in ineffective treatment, and a superpotent product can cause toxicity or overdose. The company reported receiving 98 complaints to date, including 7 of them classified as serious. Wedgewood did not provide details about the complaints or identify the products involved.1

The company advises animal owners with medical concerns to contact their veterinarians.

Guidance for veterinary practices and pharmacies

Wedgewood is advising businesses to check their products for potentially affected lots.

"Veterinary practices, pharmacies, and other customers should immediately examine their inventory, quarantine any affected product, and contact Wedgewood's recall services by phone at 866-562-5931 Monday through Friday 8 AM to 9 PM ET and Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM ET," the company wrote.1

Veterinary practices and pharmacies that dispensed affected products should identify and notify the customers who received them about the recall, Wedgewood said.

According to Wedgewood, the company has hired Sedgwick, a third-party provider of claims and recall management services, to coordinate the recall. Sedgwick is notifying affected customers by email and mail and arranging refunds or, where possible, replacement products.

Guidance for animal owners

Owners who received an affected product should stop using it, keep the product, and contact the recall services line at the same number above.

Clinical alternatives

Wedgewood said it is working with customers, veterinarians, and pet owners to identify clinically appropriate alternatives when available. Those seeking alternative treatments can call Sedgwick at 866-562-5931. Sedgwick will refer clinical questions to Wedgewood’s care team.

Adverse reactions or product quality problems can be reported to the FDA at 1-888-FDA-VETS or through the agency’s website.

Previous potency recall

Wedgewood has previously recalled compounded veterinary products due to potency concerns. In December 2022, Wedgewood Pharmacy recalled compounded omeprazole/aluminum hydroxide/magnesium hydroxide oral suspensions distributed in California, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania because the omeprazole concentration was below the labeled amount of 2 g/30 mL.3
