FDA’s latest warning about a raw pet food maker follows years of contamination findings and a federal lawsuit

The cases are part of a yearslong record of recalls, illness reports, and disputes over how the agency regulates raw pet food.

The FDA’s October 26 warning about 2 lots of Darwin’s Natural Selections Chicken Recipe for Cats, which tested positive for Salmonella after 2 cats became ill, is the latest action in a yearslong dispute between the agency and the Washington state raw pet food maker.1 It follows nearly a decade of FDA findings, recalls, and illness reports involving the company, along with a dispute over how the agency regulates Salmonella in raw pet food.
