Veterinary tip: Simple solution to catch urine
Use plastic vaccine trays to collect urine by free catch.

When a patient needs urine collected by free catch, we use plastic vaccine trays. Whenever we finish a tray of vaccines, we take out the paper insert and save the top and bottom. They work great to catch urine, especially for smaller pets that are so close to the ground, because you can slip it under without startling them. The containers are also rectangular, which allows you to keep your hand away by holding onto the edge, avoiding splatter. Another benefit: You're reusing plastic, rather than throwing it in the trash.
