CARSON CITY, NEV. — Pet owners in Nevada may now donate some unused medications to a veterinarian or veterinary facility so they can be redistributed to animals in need.

Under the new law, effective Oct. 1, pet owners can return certain medications that don't require refrigeration to a veterinarian. The veterinarian can then dispense the medications at no charge to pets in need whose owners can't afford the drug. The bill absolves the veterinarian and the drug's manufacturer of liabilities associated with the animal taking the medication, according to legislation.
