Topeka, Kan.

-- An award from Hill's Pet Nutrition celebrating lifelong dedication to veterinary medicine has gone to John W. Harvey, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVP, professor and executive associate dean at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.

The 2010 Mark L. Morris Sr. Lifetime Achievement Award carries with it a $20,000 donation from Hill's to the Morris Animal Foundation in Harvey's name.

Hill's presented the award at the opening ceremony of the North American Veterinary Conference in honor of Harvey's lifetime work in clinical pathology, physiology and hematology.

Harvey has written 113 refereed papers in veterinary and human medicine journals, three books, 46 book chapters, 56 proceedings papers, 65 abstracts and 31 research grants.

Last year's award recipient was C.A. Tony Buffington, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVN, a private practitioner, professor at The Ohio State University and founder of the Indoor Cat Initiative. The $20,000 award from Hill's went to the Morris Animal Foundation to fund a health study on assessing pain management in cats.
