In an interview with dvm360®, Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center's Ciara Vollaro, DVM, and Kevin Snyder, DVM, MS, DACVO, explain the inspiration behind Tier 1's historical opening.

During a recent dvm360® interview, Ciara Vollaro, DVM, and Kevin Snyder, DVM, MS, DACVO, from Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center, credit the need for ophthalmology services at Tier 1 to the community who had to travel to 'the lower 48' to receive proper pet care.

Kevin Snyder, DVM, MS, DACVO: The coverage for ophthalmology has been really intermittent and so someone will come up [to Alaska] and diagnose a problem, but there is no follow-up [and] there is no potential for rechecks. If there is a surgery done you don't get that 3 to 4 weeks to months of follow-up to make sure it was successful. So to be able to provide the full-time service now where I am here year-round and we can do almost any surgery...we can offer everything that you can find in Seattle or Portland and [clients] can stay here.
