Sneak peek: NWS confirmed in New Mexico dog, and other news

Here is a sneak peek of this week’s headlines

Happy Monday dvm360 readers! Can you believe that we are already in June and Fetch Nashville is behind us? If you could not make it to the Music City with us, there are still 3 more chances this year to attend a Fetch conference. We are going to be heading to Kansas City, Missouri, National Harbor, Maryland, and ending the year in Long Beach, California. You can check out our Fetch website to learn more about each show, including agendas, faculty lists, and more!

On another note, as the dvm360 team was reporting last week, New World screwworm (NWS) has entered the US and is present in the country for the first time since it was eradicated in the 1960s. dvm360 will be continuously reporting the updates coming out surrounding NWS, and you can find them all within this article that will be updated in real time.

Here is what else you can find this week on dvm360.com:

  • The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced the confirmation of New World screwworm in a calf and goat in Texas, and in a dog New Mexico. The confirmed dog case came from a sample submitted from the infested dog by a veterinarian, and investigations for both cases are currently ongoing.
  • UC Davis William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital announced that it has become the first veterinary hospital to clinically utilize scoping on temporomandibular joint patients.
  • On this week’s episode of The Vet Blast Podcast presented by dvm360, our host Adam Christman, DVM, MBA, welcomes Debra Hamilton, JD, to talk about communication styles and the impact good communication has on a veterinary clinic.
  • When it comes to your clinic, are you unintentionally sabotaging client visits? In this article contributed by Jill Clark, DVM, she takes a deeper look at what clinics could be doing that is sabotaging their client visits, and how to make a shift for better retention instead.
  • The dvm360 editorial team is heading to the ACVIM Forum in Seattle, Washington, this week! Check in throughout the forum for on-site interviews, lecture and poster coverage, and more. You can access all our content on the dvm360 website, particularly our dedicated ACVIM Forum landing page!
