Meet the 2026 Veterinary Heroes: Michael Strickland, DVM, DAVBP (Canine & Feline Practice)

Strickland is dvm360's 2026 Veterinary Heroes Lifetime Achievement Award recipient

This award is sponsored by Novaquis Animal Health

Michael Strickland, DVM, DAVBP (Canine & Feline Practice) has guided his hospital since 1985 with the principle of “Caring is what we do best.” That principle has been reflected in many ways that service animals and their humans. According to his award nominator, Strickland’s kindness, humility, and steady presence have made him a pillar in his community, while his volunteer work has embedded him in the local region.

“Dr Michael Strickland has demonstrated an extraordinary lifetime commitment to veterinary medicine, his clients, and his community through decades of service defined by compassion, integrity, and hands-on care,” his nominator wrote.

Strickland volunteers regularly at community events, such as serving as the onsite veterinarian for a dog swim event and participating in a local parade. He is known for stepping in wherever help is needed, according to his nominator. This includes support for pet owners and neighbors in need of assistance, such as shoveling snow without being asked.

“His dedication extends far beyond the clinic walls. He routinely goes above and beyond to assist clients in need, including making home visits to help with animal care, delivering groceries to senior clients unable to leave their homes, and supporting individuals recovering from medical issues by checking in on them, caring for their pets, and even helping with essential daily tasks such as cleaning litter boxes and preparing meals,” the nominator wrote. “He has also provided comfort to grieving or ill clients and assisted in rehoming animals whose owners have passed away, ensuring continuity of care and compassion during some of life’s most difficult moments.”

Congratulations to Strickland from dvm360! You can check out the rest of our 2026 recipients, and learn more about Strickland here.
