To help educate future generations of pet owners and veterinarians, Royal Canin and Vet Set Go, a community for aspiring teen and tween veterinarians, are partnering to launch the 2018 "Become a Veterinarian Camp Contest," according to a release from the two companies.

The contest offers students ranging from sixth to eighth grade the chance to win a spot in Auburn University's Junior Vet Camp in July. The package includes free tuition, meals and housing, the release states.

“The love of animals is often where the early passion is ignited for veterinarians,” Chris Carpenter, DVM, MBA, founder and president of Vet Set Go, explains in the announcement. “Our field is expected to grow in the coming years, and this time in adolescents' lives is critical to nurture and support these dreams and give a glimpse of what the future can hold.”

Three grand prize winners will be selected to attend the camp to gain firsthand experience of veterinary medicine in classrooms, laboratories and outdoor facilities. The students will learn about public health, food, animals, wildlife, anatomy, radiographs and first aid, as well as experience mentoring about veterinary science careers while on the campus in Auburn, Alabama, according to the release.

“Royal Canin believes veterinarians are at the core of making a better world for pets, and we recognize the importance of encouraging future veterinarians across the country to pursue their dreams,” says Brent Mayabb, DVM, Royal Canin's chief veterinary officer and vice president of corporate affairs. “For aspiring veterinarians, it can be difficult to find opportunities where they can get experience working with animals at a young age. This contest is designed to help overcome this challenge and give students access to the world of veterinary medicine.”

Interested students can apply from through May 2 by visiting vetsetgo.com/about/become-a-vet-camp-contest, sharing their story about why they want to be a veterinarian and including a photo of themselves helping or enjoying time with animals.
