April 18, 2018
American Veterinarian Staff

A second and third lot of raw pet food from this manufacturer have been recalled voluntarily due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Carnivore Meat Company, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has voluntarily recalled 2 additional lots of its raw pet food due to potential Salmonella contamination. The company previously issued a recall of 1 lot of its pet food in February for the same reason.

Both lots of the recalled food were distributed throughout the United States via independent retailers, and online through Chewy.com and Amazon.com.

The affected products have the following attributes:

  • 6-oz poly bag
  • Lot Number: #13815
  • Best By Date: 06/04/19 or 06/20/19

Vital Essentials Frozen Beef Chub Entrée for Dogs

  • 5-lb bag
  • Lot Number: #13816
  • Best By Date: 12/27/18

Pet owners who have handled the affected products are considered to be at risk for Salmonella infection and should seek medical help if they develop symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, fever, or headache. Similarly, veterinary care should be sought for pets that show any of these signs. All contaminated materials should be washed thoroughly.

There have been no reports of pet or human illness associated with the recalled products.

Consumers who have purchased the affected raw pet food should notify their retailer for a replacement product or refund. For further questions, consumers can call Carnivore Meat Company at 920-370-6542.
