Practice tip: Pay a bounty for missed charges

December 11, 2019
Tracy Sheffield, BS, LVT, CVPM

Get your veterinary team excited about catching missed charges.

wirat / stock.adobe.comAre missed charges a problem in your veterinary practice? Get team members on board with preventing and catching them. Reward team members when they're meticulous about recording treatments, recommendations and procedures with a bounty program.

Pay a bounty when they've done an exceptional job with a complex invoice and when a team member catches a missed charge.

Paying a bounty is far less expensive than missing a charge.

The take-home message here is, you need to work harder to get your staff excited about accurate entries on procedures to catch missed charges.

Tracy Sheffield, BS, LVT, CVPM, is practice administrator at Wimberley Veterinary Clinic in (you guessed it) Wimberley, Texas, as well as co-owner of T&L Veterinary Business Consulting. She was a dvm360/VHMA Practice Manager of the Year finalist in 2016.
