- A variation of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus auereus (MRSA) has been found in three humans in the United Kingdom.
The strain of the superbug, commonly found in pigs and other livestock, is known as ST398 and has been found in continental Europe and Canada in both farm animals and humans, but hadn't been found in humans until recently.
The Soil Association warned that the emergence of ST398 could increase the number of MRSA cases for humans.
While the strain isn't more serious than existing strains of MRSA, it is resistant to different antibiotics.
