ACVC 2019: What veterinary professionals should include in an end-of-life pet plan

October 23, 2019
Jenny Cassibry Fisher, RVT, VTS Oncology

Oncology technician Jenny Fisher shares how she helps pet parents prepare for those last moments.

At this year's Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference (ACVC), Jenny Cassibry Fisher, RVT, VTS (Oncology), director of education at PractiVet, spoke with dvm360 about some key components to consider when creating in an end-of-life pet plan.

Here she explains that she teaches pet parents how to monitor behavioral changes in their pets and shares why having a written and specific end-of-life plan is easier to follow.

"I have them do two or three things that are absolutely necessary for that pet in their life," Fisher says, noting that she would want to make sure the pet is not in uncontrollable pain and that it can breathe easily. "Having those guidelines before those times as well certainly gives you more structure," she says.

In the video below, you can find out more about how to prepare pet parents for those last moments with their best buddy.
