SeroRepair’s SeroLube product cuts time on the long process of making blood serum
Eye diseases and conditions can occur at any stage of a pet’s life. Common signs of an ocular problem include the following: squinting, rubbing the eyes, excessive tearing/discharge, redness, swelling, cloudiness, or a loss of vision.1
Eye serums are often used to treat some ocular issues, however according to a release from SeroRepair, making autologous blood serum can take 40 to 50 minutes from start to finish.2 With this long process time, blood serum can also become costly—when taking into account the time and labor involved in preparing a sterile and dispensable serum.
SeroRepair is a team specializing in human and veterinary biologics aimed at improving companion animal care and bringing new options to care givers. The company’s new product, SeroLube, is a frozen blood serum that can be used as a natural lubricant on a variety of companion animal eye disorders. It is the first frozen blood serum product of its kind and cuts out the time and processing involved in creating autologous eye serum from the patient’s blood.2
"Using SeroLube at my clinics has made treating difficult eye cases much easier for my team. It greatly expediates appointments, which is great for our staff and pet owners. Instead of dealing with the hassle of spending 45 minutes drawing blood and processing serum; we just grab a SeroLube eye dropper from the freezer and send it home with our customer. Eye serum is an effective and well tolerated treatment option, and SeroLube makes it easy,” said Nathan Hein, DVM in the release.2
SeroLube contains anti-inflammatory properties and anti-collagenases to mitigate corneal degradation in certain ulcers and stabilize the cornea scaffolding and framework. Blood serum eye drops like SeroLube can help treat other inflammatory conditions such as indolent ulcers, corneal trauma, allergic conjunctivitis, KCS (dry eye), and various post-operative care. The product comes in an easy-to-use 5mL eye dropper that can be sent home with the pet owner. SeroLube contains epithelium promoting growth factors, immunoglobulins, vitamin A, fibronectins, and anti-inflammatory mediators.
