Trenton, N.J. - New Jersey officials want healthcare professionals to start reporting impairment, incompetence or professional misconduct.

Trenton, N.J. — New Jersey officials want healthcare professionals to start reporting impairment, incompetence or professional misconduct.

The proposal comes from the Department of Law and Public Safety through the division of Consumer Affairs.

If approved, the new rule would require all healthcare professionals, including anyone licensed by the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, to report instances of impairment, incompetence or professional misconduct to the Division of Consumer Affairs' Clearing House Coordinator. A copy of the report will be sent to the professional in question, according to the proposal.

Written comments on the rule were accepted through the end of 2010, and a final rule has not been adopted.
