Zoetis conducted a study this year in which 563 pets (dogs and cats) received a standard wellness exam, then 90 days later underwent that same exam with a health risk assessment as part of the visit. The exam plus assessment revealed new health risks in about a third of patients.
The goal was to reexamine healthy dogs and cats that were previously seen in the past 90 days for their routine annual wellness visit. See the graphic below for findings:
With the health risk assessment, 86% of pet owners also indicated that they felt better informed about their pets' health and 76% felt better able to discuss their pets' healthcare with their veterinarian.
